Dear Television Networks…
Dear Television Networks,
So I was watching Law & Order: Criminal Intent (yes I admit I have an unreasonable love for procedurals, so sue me) on USA, and I noticed that you were trying some novel approaches. In this case you had a sole sponsor, and has some mini breaks. Your not alone. All the cool kids seem to be doing this. Lost has embedded clues in commercials. Sci Fi has put microprogramming in their breaks. Spike is altering the start and end times of their shows to discourage PVRs, and like to pepper their shows with ads in the lower third.
In fact it seems that all you guys are willing to do just about anything, except the one thing the consumers really want. We want to buy the shows, and watch them commercial free whenever and whereever we want. We want to be your customers.
Right now the companies that buy ad space are your customers. So in the end you are beholden to them first and us indirectly. Can we all agree that is vaugly insane? We want to be your customers. We want you to compete for us, through quality, diversity, etc. Give it a try, you’ll like it
